Breaking the strings It has been some time since I last saw Jan Akkerman perform solo with his band. Most recent experiences were his ‘Knight of the Guitar’ sessions in which he, accompanied by the pick of the (Dutch) guitar scene, performed mainly as an orchestral leader/accompanist and found himself to be less in the spotlight.

Jan Akkerman (born Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 24 December 1946) is a Dutch guitar virtuoso. In 1973 Akkerman was voted 'Best Guitarist in the World' by the readers of the British music magazine, Melody Maker.

Gained fame with Focus in the early '70's he manage to have aswell in parallel with Focus, a solo career until late 1976 when he departure from the band in their most succesful period. Jan Åkerman va enligt mig en mkt vis, bestämd & kunnig man som gjorde mkt mer än att bara skjuta djur. Att han skjutit över 1000 älgar gör mig inte särskilt imponerad. Jag vet inte hur mkt ni känner till om "älg slakten" som bedrevs förr i tiden då tusentals älgar jagades ut ur skogarna och skötts ner av jägare som stod och väntade på dom.
